This place gets 2 stars because the omelet was very good. It was $11.00 for just an omelet. No coffee or extras, which I thought was a little high for a place like this. The hash browns were way overcooked. They were dark brown and too crispy, with that burnt taste. The biscuit was terrible, I took 2 bites. I'm betting that there was a Pillsbury package in the kitchen. I should have gotten toast. Now on to the waitress. I walk in and there are 2 people in the place. One person was eating at his table and the other was at his table and was finished. The waitress gets me a menu and I ask for water. She brings the water and makes a beeline to the person that was finished eating. She is going on and on and on and on, while I'm waiting to order. The cook peaks out of the window a couple of times and sees me waiting to order, while the waitress is yapping away.A good 5 minutes has gone by. I finally ask out loud if she will take my order. She chuckles and says that she got caught up in the conversation. She was the only one talking. The 2 people at the tables leave and she isn't pulling me in to her web. I'm buried in my USA Today. She is then commenting on the tv news, weather, yapping with the cook about his troubles with his ex and so on... She didn't stop talking from the moment that I walked in. 2 more people walk in and she starts in with them. I'm guessing that they're regulars as well. Now there are only those 2 people and me in this place. I had to ask her to give me my check. She needs to tone it waaaaay down. She is loud and this place is tiny. It seems like she is there to do everything with the exception of waiting on tables. Good omelet but nothing could get me back to this place,

So much for being good to recover from restaurant week! As usual I had my mind set on one thing for lunch and drove by this place and my plans changed. Although today wasn't Friday, the giant sign saying catfish and frog legs every Friday made it easy to decide to give Jerry's a try. The menu has a nice selection of breakfast, sandwiches, and lunch meals. Most in the style of grandmas house. It was a tough choice, meatloaf, hot beef, tenderloin, pastrami, and so many more items. I even passed up the french dip (it was hard to do) and went with breakfast after watching a guy at the next table enjoying something smothered in gravy. The Big John Texas toast, sausage, hash browns, eggs, and cheese all smothered in sausage gravy. I didn't specify a half or full order which means you get a full order. The gravy was really good. A lot of gravy around town is pretty boring and needs salt and pepper added. This gravy does not need anything else except maybe some hot sauce if you like hot sauce on your breakfast. Perfectly flavored. The hash browns are delicious. They are a thinner cut than what is typical, which gives them a really nice texture. My eggs were perfectly cooked over easy and that yoke breaking all over the rest of the meal made it so much better. The sausage didn't have huge flavor, but that was ok with me as I didn't want it overwhelming the dish. The portions are huge! A half portion is probably perfect for most people. I watched other meals come out. Not only did they look tremendous, but they were also giant portions. If you only have $10 in your pocket and need to eat all week, this may suffice and much better than PB&J! A lady next to me had a tenderloin that is the size of the plate. An elderly couple ordered the meatloaf, which came with two huge slices and two sides, between the two of them they could not finish everything. A lady ordered a salad and it came in a Jethro bowl. He husband ordered a hamburger and there was no way even Steven Tyler could put his mouth around it! For the Flinstone portion sizes you get, the cost is very reasonable. Nothing on the menu is over $10. With a few items you may just break $10 adding a drink. The service was great. The two waitresses working up front worked well together. It looked like they had their sections and being it was self seat, most people were sitting in one waitresses area. The other waitress jumped right in and helped with drinks, cashing people out, refills, getting boxes, etc. Excellent team work. Both were very friendly. The cook (possibly the owner?) came out from the back when things slowed down and checked on people. The place is a little small so guessing it can fill up pretty quick for breakfast. There were a couple of open tables today around noon so they do a good business for lunch also. If you like good home cooked food, you will not be disappointed here. Looking forward to going back on a Friday for some frog legs! As I finished my meal, Come On and Move Me, Monarchs, came on my music player... very fitting as I didn't feel like I was moving after that meal! :)

My French Toast, eggs, and bacon were phenomenal! Fast, courteous staff. Just remember to bring your appetite, as they have good sized portions!

I've eaten fried catfish and reuben sammies all over the USA over the past 40 years, and Jerry's has the best I've ever eaten by an enormous margin: catfish: available on Fridays, the get two mutantly large and thick fillets with a side )(maybe 2?) of your choice for less than $10. The fillets are the crispiest and juciest I've ever seen/eaten. reuben: Jerry uses the best pastrami I've ever beheld for this sammy, perfectly grilled and dressed with kraut and sauce. It is simply the finest sandwich that you will ever eat. Jerry's also has a decent Chicago dog, and bad chili, as a footnote. Bottom line: When you go to Jerry's, stick with the reuben and fried catfish (tenderloin sammy if you can't get the reub or Mr. Whiskers), and you will be eating some of the finest modern diner food that the world has to offer.
(5)John J.
Great breakfast, you have to order the chocolate chip pancakes it delicious. I ordered 2 & waitress talked me down to 1 because these things are bigger than frisbee's. Great hash browns
(4)Lori E.
Great little breakfast place. Half order French toast and side of hash browns are still a ton of food. Always friendly staff and people. Would come back again!
(5)Matt E.
This place very well could be delicious, but I'll never know. Why? Because after more than 5 minutes of just standing at the front door of this teeny tiny restaurant, not one but two employees blew us off. Yes, the place was full, but if you are going to take the time to look somebody up and down, you probably have the time to say "hi' or "we'll be right with you" before shuffling off. But nope, two completely different employees decided that I wasn't even worthy of a hello. Pass. judging from the other reviews that's quite possibly the case. That's the only reason they get a 2nd star from me. If i were to make it out again, it very well might be tasty. But I'm not driving the 101 blocks south to test it out.

I love a great breakfast, and it's hard for me to be totally wowed. Having said that, this is definitely one of the better breakfasts in the city. Hash browns are done exactly the way I like, crispy, buttery, savory. Do wish there was a o'brien option. The chicken fried steak was very solid. Not a frozen piece they just drop in the fryer. The gravy is pretty damn good. Not nirvana, but damn good. Biscuit was mediocre. Portions are huge. Great value. Still need to try the cinnamon rolls(looked great), pancakes, waffles, etc. You're going to wait if you come at peak times, but the small place helps keep quality in check. Service was very good for me on my first visit, but they were only at about 65% capacity. I still wish the place was a little better. If they added potatotes o'brien, and made a better biscuit, and improved the chicken fried steak just one more notch up, it'd be off the chain. I see myself eating here fairly regularly, on off-peak hours.

We came here solely because of image on the menu. Badass- making a skull and bones picture out of eggs and bacon!! The wait is long. Deal with it. I ordered the Big John. I ordered the have size and it was too much!! The smorgasbord of meat, cheese, gravy, hash browns, toast and eggs on one plate was overwhelming and resulted in all tasting like the gravy. The meal was so heavy I skipped lunch and are a late dinner.

I'm pretty sure I found the best damn breakfast in Kansas City at Jerry's. A co-worker told me I had to try it, so following this year's Easter Keg Hunt we hit it up. It's a small, no frills diner. There are about a dozen old tables, with matching old chairs. This isn't some corporate chain, it's owned by the man working the grill, Jerry. The menu is full of all sorts of wonder and combinations you're only going to find at Jerrys. I was warned before ordering that the portions are ginormous, so come hungry, or order a half size like I did (it was still huge). I ordered the Big Alex (Texas Toast, ccorned beef hash, hashbrowns, eggs, american cheese, and smothered in gravy). My taste buds had an orgasm. My coworker had the Big John which is the same as the Big Alex only has sausage instead of corned beef hash. It was INCREDIBLE. The value is superb to. My half order and cup of coffee had me paying something like $6 and change. I will defintely be hitting this place up again and would recommend it to anyone who wants a real breakfast.
(5)Dee B.
This is the kind of local place I want to love. But I just can't. The food is average to poor. Cheap old furniture and decor. But the worst part is that their ventilation system in the kitchen is so bad that I always leave smelling like burned frying oil. The smell seeps into your clothes and stays there all day-a constant reminder of your meal. I won't go there again.
(2)Kelly O.
Absolutely love the food and the waitresses. Hate how small the place is because if you don't get there early - you don't get in. I can't tell you how many times I've driven by with the hopes of getting a half order of Big John or the best reuben in the world . . . I wish someone would buy them a bigger place so we could all be one happy plump family.
(5)John S.
This is by far the best breakfast spot in the area. All the food is homemade and cooked great. The portions are huge and the price is fair. I recommend the big john or the big Alex. Tables fill up fast but the wait is never longer then 10-15 minutes.
(5)Jim F.
We were visiting family in the KC area and, as always, we wanted to find a good local place for breakfast (which, frankly, can be a challenge in Johnson County). Jerry's delivers. The place is quirky and full of characters. Lots of diversity in the clients and menu. I had the Mexican omelet which was perfect. My wife had great french toast. The regular menu is huge, and then there were several "specials" boards (which appeared to be permanent!). Easy place to recommend if you like a diner-like experience.
(4)Rajasekar A.
I dont usually write reviews. This place is awesome-AWESOME! One of the best breakfast places I have been to. The hashbrowns are a must-try. Excellent service! I wish I had tipped more. Next time, I will.
(5)Carrie M.
Unbelievably slooooooooow service -without a smile- and there was a hair in my food when I got it. When I showed the server, she brought it to the staff for further inspection as though she didn't believe me and then said to me " well, nobody back there has any hair, so. ...." WHAT? ??!!! Will definitely NOT be returning.
(1)Jason E.
The food is always good and affordable. Definitely one of the best places to grab breakfast for yourself or with a small group. It's a nice little spot that at times has a line of people waiting to be seated, so you should be patient on the weekends and have plenty of time set aside if you want a good meal.
(4)Jen B.
Jerry's Cafe took over the old Georgie Porgie's space, next door to Jasper's at 103rd & State Line. The owner, Jerry, is the original owner of the popular Jerry Woodswether Cafe in the West Bottoms. Traditional breakfast fare, huge cinnamon rolls, prompt service. Simply put - the way breakfast was meant to be. The place is small, but the servers are attentive, food comes out quickly, and they move people through. My only complaint - and the reason I gave it 3 stars instead of 4 - is because the waitress brought my drink by grasping the lip area of the cup. Is it so hard to realize you are putting your fingers directly on the area where somebody's mouth will be? It isn't exclusive to Jerry's, I see it done all the time -- and it grosses me out 100% of the time. All in all, we enjoyed it and we'll be back.
(3)Jen B.
This is for service only. We found Jerry's on Yelp and decided to give it a try. While we were waiting to give the host our name a man brushed by us and put his name in. The host seated his party first. Then a second party were seated ahead of us. Maybe only "regulars" are welcome. We left.
(1)Caroline K.
Great breakfast fare that comes out fast and cheap. The hash browns are amazing, they're almost like angel hair pasta, and the eggs are velvety smooth. Always a safe bet when you want a big breakfast without a wait. I would also definitely consider it for lunch - the sandwiches and specials all sound just as hearty.
(4)Tilden S.
This place is a toilet. Everything is sticky from old syrup. Every dish has so much gravy on it, it's no wonder the clientele are morbidly obese and suffering from diabetes. Jerry's an A-hole who couldn't run a soup kitchen.
(1)Mike B.
OK this is a breakfast place 5 star, it's not the Capital Grill, but what an awesome cafe, started with the cinnamon role for the three of us to share, followed up with the Big Alex..potatoes, corned beef hash, eggs, covered in delicious gravy! Could not finish it, my 11 year old, who is a big Eater could not finish 1 pancake..yes 1.
(5)Jessica M.
Had a half order of the Big John and could only eat half of it! It was so delicious, I will definitely go there again and get it again. The amount that you get and price that you pay is incredible. The food is delicious. I will have to try one of their monster cinnamon rolls when I come in again.
(5)Thomas A.
I'm glad the Woodsweather tradition has survived but too bad it is so far away from home! We had lunch here one Saturday afternoon and I had the enormous tenderloin! My GAWD was it delicious or what? And the size of that monster! Jerry's always had the most humongous meals and tasty diner food to the hilt! It's out of the way for me BUT, I would definitely go out of my way to dine here again. Fabulous breakfast and lunch menu and in a good spot if you need to grocery shop or go to the hardware store.
(4)Ryan S.
This place has amazing food breakfast and lunch alike. I have been here several times had omelets chicken fried steak the Ruben, and all the dishes were amazing. Not the best atmosphere and a long wait on the weekends, but a great greese spoon!
(5)James E.
HORRIBLE! I just moved back to the Kansas City area after living in NYC for six years. Finding good food around here has been quite a challenge and dining at this restaurant was probably one of the worst experiences I have had thus far. Simply put - I walked out. Upon entering, I found myself a table and was greeted by a lady. Not a bad start. I gave her my order and she promptly brought me a cup of coffee (which was really good actually). In fact, the one star I gave can go to the coffee :) The fun ended there. I waited for almost 30 minutes with great coffee and no food. I did, however, get to watch others enjoy their breakfast, and I just sat there. Not once did anyone come up to me and explain why it takes 30 minutes to scramble eggs and cook bacon... Nothing. I kindly got out of my seat, offered to pay for the coffee and the waitress said to me, your order is coming up next. By that time - I didn't care if my order was sitting in the window, I no longer wanted to be there. After I offered to pay for the coffee, she said to me "just go." And with that, I left - hungry, and very unhappy. They just lost a potential regular customer considering how much I love breakfast and how loyal I can be once I find a great spot. Perhaps they don't care as they seem to do just fine with the many regulars that were sitting all around me. :/
(1)Liz P.
This is a great little breakfast joint. It is sometimes a wait to get a seat but it is well worth it. My favorite part is the guessing game you play when you order coffee. What kind of coffee cup are you going to get? It adds to the cafe's uniqueness! All the coffee cups are different and remind me of my grandmas house. The food is home cooked and floods you with memories of Sunday breakfast at home. I haven't had a bad meal yet... With my favorite being the bacon and eggs(extra crispy style). This place is easy on the pocketbook and a great find for a Saturday morning coffee and meal.
(5)Amanda D.
Sad to hear Jerry retired the end of June:( Food is still good - surprised the bun for the burger wasn't buttered & grilled though. Patty melts were very good and fries are fresh cut.
(4)A.m. S.
Although it is small it's a little gem.. It's always the hole in the wall spots that have the best food. Loved my west coast omelet, our daughters French toast was amazing and my husband enjoyed his steak and eggs. Everything was butter delicious but it was great!!!
(4)George H.
After Jerry sold his place and now there is a new cook and owner, I am happy that the menu is the same as well as the food. Nick is the owner and he stressed that he was doing everything to keep it the same.
(5)Daniel Z.
We were excited to try a new breakfast place and I saw many reviews on the "Big John". The.gravy and sausage were both bland and the hash browns were soaked in grease. If I hadn't covered it in hot sauce not sure if it would've been worth eating. My wife got the Italian sausage omelette which was ok but her hash browns were also greasy in the middle. Service was good but it took forever to get our food. We also didn't get an order of toast we ordered which they did remove from our receipt. Not sure we'll be going back.
(2)Saige A.
Fits the term "hole in the wall Diner" to a tee! We like to go here on Saturday mornings for breakfast. We can always expect a minimum of twenty minute wait. Once seated, staff is nice and it is a fun experience. Sometimes I want to say "Hold the butter!" but it wouldn't be Jerry's without it. It is not really vegetarian friendly. I find myself getting the veggie omelet every time though. You have to try the Frisbee pancake! It is delicious and enough for two people to share.
(4)Michael P.
Oh boy, Jerry's is going to make life on a diet very difficult. This reincarnation of Jerry's Woodsweather Cafe down in City Market shines in a cramped space in Watts Mill shopping center next to Jaspers on 103rd Street. Our first visit here won't be our last. Italian sausage and eggs was a treat and the crispy hash browns were sliced thin enough to melt in your mouth. Throw in a cinnamon roll to go and you have a downright decadent breakfast for about the same cost as other places for a heckuva lot more food. I agree with other reviewers about the space - it's teeny tiny inside and you might find yourself waiting for a table for a little while. Slow paced regulars sipping on coffee and telling fish stories for two hours don't help the table turnover rate either. It's worth it, however, to get a plate of comfort food at a reasonable price in this little gem.
(4)Tina L.
Food is amazing...best breakfast in Kansas city. Place is a dive but so good. This time here waitress was rude...guess 630 am was to early for her....still will be back...
(4)Lisa C.
Stumbled upon this place thanks to Yelp and was rewarded with a fantastic breakfast and more food than I could possibly eat. I had to take a plate size cinnamon roll home with me because they looked so GOOD! They make excellent biscuits and gravy which can be difficult to find!! Great staff and friendly atmosphere!!
(5)Terry B.
Days of operation need to be updated, drove 1/2 hour to have breakfast on Tuesday, and they were closed.
(1)Chris R.
Simply put, this place is awesome. Local Affordable Friendly And most important, great food!! It may look like you will get mugged in the parking lot, but totally worth it! We will be back.
(5)Ron M.
Very good food. Service is GREAT. The new owner is very friendly. Wish you the best if luck. He was out greeting customers not hiding in the kitchen
(5)Chops M.
Homemade Italian sausage...homemade biscuits....smoked bacon....Hot coffee....tight seating, friendly talkative staff. A great find on this side of town.
(4)Mike R.
My buddy and I wanted to try somewhere new for breakfast and saw that Jerry's had a good rating and was inexpensive-so we gave it a shot. The place is packed-which can be a good sign, but also keep in mind it's not that hard to pack because it's also a small establishment. We were sat at a 'communal' table with 4 other people. Again, this could be interesting or even fun sitting at a table with strangers, but that wasn't the case. (I know this is not the restaurants fault that I ended up sitting with a small family that basically discussed all the negative drama in their lives and all their issues with Steve, Joe, Brian, Stacy, etc., and I could do without the constant coughing/hacking and blowing their nose for extended periods of time right next to me-but I just want to let the reader know that this is the atmosphere for my first dining experience here.) The food was a bit below average. Eggs were sad, the hash browns were what you would expect-which is fine, and my "Homemade Italian Sausage" patties were undercooked...so only one bite and I was done. The waiting staff was very friendly-the only reason I'm giving it more than one star. When it was all said and done, I somehow ended up paying $27 (decent tip included) for 2 average meals and 1 coffee. My friends, that is not my definition of cheap. Sum it up: Friendly staff Overpriced, below average food Stuffy atmosphere
(2)Mary Q.
Tried this place since there were reviews that the breakfast was pretty decent. Arrived and wasnt sure if I was supposed to seat myself or if I was to wait on a seat. They finally told me to sit wherever I wanted to go, so I found an open spot. I saw pancakes on someone else's yelp, so I figured I'd give it a go. The wait staff overall was average. They weren't stellar, not awful, but not anything to write home about from a customer service standpoint. The food was tasty. I was more disappointed when waitress and cook or assumed owner got into a rather heated and loud argument within everyone's ear shot, and the waitress stormed out. I get that its a small place, but noticing that blow up was uncomfortable enough for me not to go back.
(3)Marie F.
Fried pickles and you can choose if you want spicy or not. I wanted a burger for breakfast and it was Sunday so some places are actually closed to burger eating patrons. This place had what I was looking for. Albiet a lot of bread, and I had to soak the pickles in the only napkin I was alotted...and I had to ask for a straw and the Coke was not up to par... but i got my burger. A lot of people there having real breakfast... I need to try it...and ask for extra napkins before I get started.
(3)Phillip L.
I had the omelette with chorizo and it was fantastic. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to others.
(5)William G.
A great breakfast place, although that's all I've had there thus far. The Big John is excellent and more than I can eat in one sitting (recommend getting the half order). The blueberry pancake is larger than the plate and great (ask for a second plate).
(5)Deana W.
I am a self-professed meat lover, so for breakfast, there is nothing I love better than crispy bacon! Ahhhh ! Fried pig fat. Such bliss! Now, add to that a couple of gently cooked eggs (not always easy to achieve), crispy hash browns, and a slice of crunchy, wheat toast with blackberry jam, and I'm feeling Nirvana! Jerry's will give you that, and more! Like french toast with blueberries? Ripe, juicy berries, cooked just long enough to make them tender, with an explosion of fresh fruit flavor. Enough berries to adorn every last morsel. Omelets large enough to feed a small family in Phuket! Good prices, lots of daily specials, and portions big enough to satisfy any red-blooded American male or Phuketian family. Don't believe me? Check out my pics. They speak for themselves! It's a breakfast must do....that is if ya' wanna get your "Fat and Sassy" on.
(4)Tom M.
The hot cocoa is great, the waffles are delicious, the one problem is the chocolate chips were not very chocolatey.
(4)Darcey R.
I was surprised at how small Jerry's Cafe was on the inside. I think there were maybe 12-15 tables. I loved how all the coffee cups were just random ones; made me feel like I was at home. I opted for the Chicken Fried Steak (w/sausage gravy) that came with eggs and hash browns. the CFS was pretty good; the batter had really good flavor. I will say that some sections of it was tough and difficult to cut but that did not affect the overall quality of the CFS. The gravy that came with it was OK, not the best I've had but not the worst either. The hash browns were pretty standard; a little mushy for my taste but still had good flavor. My girlfriend got the pancake and it was HUGE (bigger than a frisbee) and tasted good. I went back and forth between giving Jerry's 3 or 4 stars. The food was good; it was what I would expect for a small place. I think it was just lacking that "wow" factor that I was expecting for some reason. I wouldn't hesitate about going back again for breakfast but I don't think it will be my first choice in the future.
(3)Kevin M.
After moving our company to this location, we were in search of replacement restaurants. Jerry's has been the best find in the area with exceptional food and great prices. The only problem is having to choose between the Chicken Fried Steak or the Meatloaf. Fortunately, Jerry runs daily specials to help one choose. Only open for breakfast and lunch so don't plan on a dinner outing. Seating is limited so if you find a wait, just head a few doors east to Marco Polo which is another of my new found local favorites. I only hope that someday I can pull myself out of bed early enough to go enjoy their breakfast menu!
(5)Gregg R.
Really good food. Ate breakfast here and got the French toast, and a cinnamon roll to go. After I eat the cinnamon roll I may have to add a star.
(4)Leesa G.
Food was great, hot and fresh. More than enough food, we both took food home. Service was good, everyone was friendly. Only draw back is the seating, would not bring a wheelchair bound person to the cafe not enough aisle space.
(4)The M.
Best breakfast in KC!!' Great prices!!! Great portions!!! Please expand for more seating and please put benches outside for waiting customers.
(5)Butch P.
Fantastic place for breakfast or lunch food is great but the waitresses are the best!
(5)Tim A.
Okay, we went based on reviews for my wife's birthday breakfast. Overall food was excellent and served quickly. It was somewhat pricey. $55 for two adults and three kids but portions were large. Cinnamon roll was outstanding. A couple of service issues: plates not cleared off quickly, slow on refills, and had to ask a few times for regular items.
(3)Shawn M.
I go out to lunch with my dad on a regular basis. We try new stuff all the time, but Jerry's is always our favorite. I have been a patron ever since the Jerry was at Woodsweather's down in the Bottoms. I try and get something different everytime I am there, but the Rueben is my old standby. The staff is prompt and friendly, and Jerry will come out and chat it up with me and my dad every time we go in. Never had a bad meal or experience here. Try and go during that slow time between Breakfast and Lunch. As many of the reviews have stated, It is a small place and it fills up quickly. The wait is worth it, however.
(5)Jason J.
I love this place. It's tiny so expect a wait. But if you are looking for greasy spoon type, big arse comfort food this is your place. The chicken fried steak and eggs is one of the best in town.
(5)Bryan M.
Got the biscuits & gravey for a client's staff - they requested it from Jerry's. Great service - they packed up my order to go quickly. All good! Client's team was very pleased. Jerry was friendly. Gotta' love it! (They don't take AmEx)
(4)Robert H.
Fantastic, but small, breakfast diner. Tried the Big John, full order, my first trip there....big mistake, way to much :-), went with the half order the next time. Consistent good, friendly service, yummy large cinnamon rolls. We love swinging by on the weekends!
(5)Kathy M.
First time here and we will definitely go back. Jerry's Cafe is tucked into an older strip mall and is a rather small place with not much atmosphere; however, the food was outstanding! The owner stopped by our table and was super friendly and appreciative of his customers. You could tell he thoroughly enjoyed his job. I had the reuben and it was excellent. My husband had the patty melt and thoroughly enjoyed it as well.
(4)Greg B.
There *only* place for breakfast in South Kansas City. Hoy coffee, fast service, fresh delicious food and reasonable prices make this a place hard to beat. Try the Shrimp/Crab or Greek Omelette. YUM!
(5)Connie G.
I feel this is the best diner in the entire metro. The breakfast menu is great but so is everything else. Jerry is a great owner and I love to see his pride and skill. Portions are huge! Everything I've had was wonderful. Outside benches would be great for the overflow customers waiting. It's not fancy decor; but if you are a true foodie and love breakfast make the drive.
(5)Missa K.
I'm a fan. I walked into this teeny tiny restaurant to meet my mom and grandma, holding my gigantic 1yr old. Mom and GG were not there yet. The place was full, but an elderly couple was getting up to leave. The waitress saw me standing there with a baby bottle between my teeth and jumped to help the elderly couple (she assisted with the ladies coat) on their way, set up a high chair, and cleaned off the table before they were out the door. Mind you she in no way rushed the couple and they were more than happy to see their seats being taken by such cuteness. (My kid's a looker.) My mom and GG were running late, as always, but the server brought out a plate of fries, unordered and on the house, to keep my lil occupied. Everyone, straight down to the cooks, made friendly conversation with my whole fam once they finally got there. Now, the food. YES! Finally good frog legs in KC! Perfect. Like grandma used to make. Not fancied up, just awesome, old fashion, frogs legs! I had them for lunch and dinner because that's how big the serving was. My mom ordered a cup of chili.....we don't wanna know what a bowl is. I can't remember what GG had, but there were no complaints. For a really friendly, quirky, intimate, down home dining experience, I don't think you can beat it. Even when we tried to pick up the dropped fries and sugar packets my lil littered everywhere they shooed us out like grandma would have, smiling and waving the whole time.

There's nothing better than a good home cooked breakfast place, and south Kansas City has been needing one, until Jerry moved his downtown diner to the suburbs. I love the biscuits & gravy, the hash browns and his secret (not on the menu) Italian Steak & eggs. The coffee is average and the service is friendly. I really appreciate the casual urban feel of the place, with mismatched coffee mugs and assorted plates and utensils. Jerry will stick his head out of the kitchen to check on your meal in his greasy white apron. It just doesn't get any better for my taste!
